Tough Girls

Reasons why shinguards are important and why we tell our players, "Yes, in our style of play, you will get kicked."

The purple spot and center knot was with shinguard protection from this past weekend, which she didn't tell me about until tonight...of course it didn't stop this girl from playing this evening and continuing to smile with her teammates.  She even began anticipating those "Karate Kicks", as I call them, and tip toeing over them to follow the ball; something we've been working on, moving the ball forward away from them, but to where they want it, leaving it go, and coming back to it...getting away from having soccer ball separation anxiety; seems to happen to our Legends players for some reason.  :-)

Digression aside, I suspect more of our players have a few knots of their own to show from that match.  The girls grumbled a little bit coming off at half time, but before they could get too far down that path, I asked them, "What are we here to do?" and the team consensus reply was, "To play soccer!" and that's what they and the rest of the girls Academy group have been doing.

Coach David, Pat, myself and some of our aspiring "Sub" coaches have really enjoyed watching them play with skill, toughness, and a relentless desire to get our there and just play soccer so far this season.
